If they aren’t knock-offs (and I now believe that they are), the adhesives and/or plastics used in these are no so old that my pair fell apart during my first attempt to plug them in. Ironically, the packaging was so suspicious that I spent an hour researching the the signs to tell if these were fakes. (See the detailed photos I posted before trying to plug them in).

These earbuds met every cosmetic test, so I decided to open them. I even decided to photograph the packaging and upload the “user images”. I labeled every point that suggested that these were legitimate Apple products. Then, Ironically, as I went to plug them in to play 10 hours of audio before I listed to them, the sleeve on the jack came off as I tried to plug it in for the 1st time.

I may still burn them in, but even my Phillips, wife Sony, and some old Seinzenhaur have better sound. I gave this a fair shot, but I should have gone with my instinct. Obviously, different people are receiving different items, and no recent reviews indicate anything positive. My advice? If you persist in ordering these and they lack the retail packaging, return them unopened. If they do have the retail packaging, verify that the product bar-code is a “sticker” rather than a white side of the box. (Legitimate earbuds from apple always have the product code and such as a sticker.)

At best, I received an old Apple products with failing adhesives and deteriorating plastics. At worst, this generation of earbuds is so old that the counterfeiters have had time to fix every cosmetic indication that these are are fake.

At this point, I’ve invested to much time to even make it worth my while to return these for a ten dollar credit. My billable rate is 85 dollars an hour, so I’ll cut my losses on the 170 (in equivalent time value of money) and just walk away. This isn’t even worth my time to call on the Amazon Guarantee to hassle with repacking and shipping back. Hopefully, I can at least get some cosmic Karma points out of this for warning others.

Total misrepresentation. The product I received is nothing like the photo shown. It is just a white earbud in a plastic bag with no volume control etc. Please do not buy.

I bought “Original Apple iPod Earphones/Earbuds MA662G/B” from Hi-Tech Media Inc. and it’s a genuine Apple product. I know there’s a lot of fake, cheap, and imitation Apple products on the market, but this product (from the specified seller) is, by all accounts, the real deal. You’re going to spend $9 to $15 on something quality, so be careful if you see $3-$4 sales. You get what you pay for under normal circumstances.
